ABSTRACT

The postmodern medical paradigm has empowered online users in the (de)legitimating process of health-related topics. By employing a co-occurrence analysis, this study identifies the thematic patterns used by Romanian online users in their multimodal comments to the #storiesfromvaccination Facebook campaign run by the Romanian government. The findings show that the commenters assessed source credibility through two thematic patterns: ‘source exemplarity' and ‘source distrust'. Health experts were more legitimized than laypersons and role models as sources in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Two thematic patterns emerged in the assessment of vaccination, namely: ‘immunization – past and present challenges' and ‘vaccination supporter versus opponent cleavage'. In the discussion on immunization, a polarization between a nostalgic longing for the past and a present corrupted medical and political system prevailed, whereas the important feature of discursive antagonism could be observed in the latter thematic pattern. The co-occurrences of (de)legitimation strategies are explained with reference to the political and medical context, along with the challenges of social media usage in online vaccination communication campaigns. ABSTRACT

PurposeThe lockdown of libraries has led to changes in the delivery of services. Reviewing many studies in this regard appears to be of great importance. Thus, this study aims to analyze the articles related to libraries and COVID-19 using the co-occurrence analysis.Design/methodology/approachThe current study is applied in terms of purpose and scientometrics in terms of type, which has been conducted using a retrospective bibliometric analysis method and drawing a science map. The relevant keywords were searched in the Scopus and 225 articles were reviewed in terms of author, year of publication, journal, organization and subject. Then, the VOSviewer software was used to analyze and illustrate the keywords and draw the scientific map of the articles.FindingsThe results showed that 225 articles by 496 authors from 66 countries and 379 organizations were published in the subject area of libraries and COVID-19. These articles have received 620 citations. The co-occurrence analysis of words showed that these scientific productions are classified into four clusters: "The role of libraries and librarians”, "The use of media, social network and communication technologies in order provide library services”, "Online Library Services” and "Infodemic and misinformation in the COVID-19 Pandemic”.Originality/valueIt is the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic that a scientific map has been drawn up of studies that have examined the role of libraries in this pandemic. The results of the present study may help libraries to access what they need to consider in any crisis.

ABSTRACT

Work-life balance helps to maintain an attractive organizational culture and remove work-life conflicts and show the path to employees of how to be more efficient in different work roles. This balanced practice is giving a care and feeling of protection to the employees. It motivates better performance that contributes to employee engagement indices. The main purpose of this study is to report work-life balance pre- and during the COVID-19 pandemic by bibliometric analysis. This study analyzed 4,030 "work-life balance” studies published between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2019, from the pre-pandemic era, and 1,143 studies published during the pandemic (between January 1, 2020-March 24, 2021). The data were extracted from the Scopus database using keywords "work-life balance” and keywords in titles (items) analyzed using VOSviewer software. Co-occurrence connection between keywords in titles and density visualization based on the total link strength clearly shows that COVID-19 significantly impacted work-life balance and related research. © 2023 IGI Global. ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the international scientific output regarding the relationship between COVID-19 and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) through a bibliometric analysis and explore research hotspots in this field. Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection for publications and used different types of software, such as R, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer, to analyze and visualize the data. Results: A total of 10,055 publications were retrieved as of the 13 December 2022, based on the inclusion criteria after screening. The USA and China lead in the quantity and quality of publications in this field. Based on Bradford's law, 63 journals were considered core journals in the field. Co-cited references and keywords analysis indicated that researchers paid particular attention to cardiovascular comorbidities, outcomes, and COVID-19 regenerative medicine. In summary, with increasing COVID-19 research related to CVD, more attention might be drawn to the relationship between these two diseases. Conclusion: The hotspots in this field may continue to revolve around cardiovascular comorbidities, outcomes, and COVID-19 regenerative medicine. Owing to the different situations faced by different groups with COVID-19, further exploration of the related factors specific to each of these groups, e.g., history or no history of heart failure, is needed, with a view to providing a reference for intervention measures in COVID-19 research.

ABSTRACT

Recent interest in multiple sclerosis research warrants literature analysis to evaluate the current state of the discipline and new research domains. This bibliometric review summarised the research trends and analysed research areas in multiple sclerosis over the last decade. The documents containing the term 'multiple sclerosis' in the article title were retrieved from the Scopus database. We used Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer for citation analysis and data visualisation, respectively. We found a total of 18,003 articles published in journals in the English language between 2012 and 2021. The emerging keywords identified utilising the enhanced strategic diagram were 'covid-19', 'teriflunomide', 'clinical trial', 'microglia', 'b cells', 'myelin', 'brain', 'white matter', 'functional connectivity', 'pain', 'employment', 'health-related quality of life', 'meta-analysis' and 'comorbidity'. This study demonstrates the tremendous growth of multiple sclerosis literature worldwide, which is expected to grow more than double during the next decade especially in the identified emerging topics.

ABSTRACT

The large amount of data generated during the COVID-19 pandemic requires advanced tools for the long-term prediction of risk factors associated with COVID-19 mortality with higher accuracy. Machine learning (ML) methods directly address this topic and are essential tools to guide public health interventions. Here, we used ML to investigate the importance of demographic and clinical variables on COVID-19 mortality. We also analyzed how comorbidity networks are structured according to age groups. We conducted a retrospective study of COVID-19 mortality with hospitalized patients from Londrina, Parana, Brazil, registered in the database for severe acute respiratory infections (SIVEP-Gripe), from January 2021 to February 2022. We tested four ML models to predict the COVID-19 outcome: Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, and XGBoost. We also constructed a comorbidity network to investigate the impact of co-occurring comorbidities on COVID-19 mortality. Our study comprised 8358 hospitalized patients, of whom 2792 (33.40%) died. The XGBoost model achieved excellent performance (ROC-AUC = 0.90). Both permutation method and SHAP values highlighted the importance of age, ventilatory support status, and intensive care unit admission as key features in predicting COVID-19 outcomes. The comorbidity networks for old deceased patients are denser than those for young patients. In addition, the co-occurrence of heart disease and diabetes may be the most important combination to predict COVID-19 mortality, regardless of age and sex. This work presents a valuable combination of machine learning and comorbidity network analysis to predict COVID-19 outcomes. Reliable evidence on this topic is crucial for guiding the post-pandemic response and assisting in COVID-19 care planning and provision.

ABSTRACT

Health communication is a new field focusing on the “powerful role” of human and media communication in health care services and health promotion. This study intends to explore the intellectual structure of knowledge in health communication literature using the co-word analysis technique. The applied descriptive-analytical method was used in this study to analyze the literature content with a hierarchical clustering approach. For data collection, the descriptors of the keyword “Health Communication” were searched in the medical subject heading (MeSH) in the PubMed database on November 18, 2021, for the period of 1959–2021. Data analysis and clustering were performed using SPSS software (version 20), RavarPremap software, Excell, Ucinet and VosViewer software. Data analysis indicates that scientific articles on communication health have experienced ascending growth pattern. Moreover, the findings on hierarchical clustering led to the formation of six subject clusters with the predominant subjects of " COVID-19 Pandemic, Health Education & Vaccine Hesitancy." The present study revealed a structural relationship among subject concepts in the clusters created with common features within each group. This study provided valuable insights into scientific communication patterns in health communication research produced in the PubMed database.

ABSTRACT

Besides the concerns about medical, health, and mental health issues as the essential parts of research on COVID-19, social sciences, and humanities research also have been affected by the situation. In this sense, the primary purpose of the current study was to map the conceptual structure of COVID-19 literature in the social sciences area. About 2587 documents related to "COVID-19" in the social sciences which indexed in the Scopus database during 2020 were considered as the research data. Based on the cohesion measure, the co-word network of COVID-19 literature in the social sciences area was cohesive. The main themes raised in the research clusters were: Environmental issues, social quality service, crisis management, social support, and COVID-19 social effects. Research results revealed that emerging thematic clusters contain topics such as climate change, environment, vulnerable populations, culture, and quality of life, fake new, and social identity. In addition, the present study also predicted that at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, its social effects on societies could be consistent: thus, it is recommended that research on COVID-19 effects in the area of social sciences in universities and research institutions should be reconsidered.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This paper systematically evaluates the existing literature of innovations in freight transport, including all modes, to uncover the key research themes and methodologies employed by researchers to study innovations and their implications in this industry. It analyses the role of transport and the impact of innovations during crises, such as COVID-19. Design/methodology/approach: Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the innovations in freight transport unravels the pre-requisites of such endeavours in achieving a resilient and sustainable transport network that effectively and efficiently operates during a crisis. The authors performed keyword co-occurrence network (KCON) analysis and research focus parallelship network (RFPN) analysis using BibExcel and Gephi to determine the major resulting research streams in freight transport. Findings: The RFPN identified five emerging themes: transport operations, technological innovation, transport economics, transport policy and resilience and disaster management. Optimisation and simulation techniques, and more recently, artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) approaches, have been used to model and solve freight transport problems. Automation innovations have also penetrated freight and supply chains. Information and communication technology (ICT)-based innovations have also been found to be effective in building resilient supply chains. Research limitations/implications: Given the growth of e-commerce during COVID-19 and the resulting logistics demand, along with the need for transporting food and medical emergency products, the role of automation, optimisation, monitoring systems and risk management in the transport industry has become more salient. Transport companies need to improve their operational efficiency using innovative technologies and data science for informed decision-making. Originality/value: This paper advises researchers and practitioners involved in freight transport and innovation about main directions and gaps in the field through an integrated approach for evaluating research undertaken in the area. This paper also highlights the role of crisis, e.g. COVID-19, and its impacts on freight transport. Major contributions of this paper are as follows: (1) a qualitative and quantitative, systematic and effective assessment of the literature on freight transport through a network analysis of keywords supplemented by a review of the text of 148 papers;(2) unravelling major research areas;(3) identifying innovations in freight transport and their classification as technological and non-technological and (4) investigating the impact of crises and disruptions in freight transport. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

This study analyses the research publications data about Coronavirus before and after the Covid-19 outbreak, to answer vital questions relevant to the Coronavirus research. The objectives of this study are to compare the Coronavirus research publications and tries to distinguish the pre and post Covid-19 outbreak trend in Coronavirus research, in the context of research areas, publications growth pattern, country and institutional contributions, funding agencies, language distribution, publishers and journal preferences, etc. It also tries to visualise the institutional and country-wide collaboration patterns in the Coronavirus research using the VOSviewer visualisation software. This study is based on the data retrieved from the Web of Science database for two time-frames, such as 1965 to 31st December 2019, and 1st January 2020 to 30th June 2021. This study reveals that, 89 per cent of the Coronavirus research publications were brought out after the Covid-19 outbreak, and research on Coronavirus has been undertaken in diversified areas in contrast to the prior period where it was mainly on virology, veterinary science, infectious diseases, microbiology, immunology, etc. It shows that USA and China continued to stand on top of the Coronavirus publications share, and the research collaboration between various countries and institutions has improved during 2020-21. It shows that over 97 per cent of the Coronavirus publications are in the English and the majority of the publications are in the journals published by Elsevier in both periods. During 2020-21 the Journal of Virology lost its upper hand in publishing the Coronavirus research publications.

ABSTRACT

The development of "wise medical" is crucial to global carbon reduction. The medical sector not only has the moral obligation to reduce carbon emissions, but also has the responsibility to provide high-quality services to patients. Existing research mostly focuses on the relationship between low-carbon and wise medical, while ignoring the transformation of wise medical and patients' opinions in the context of low-carbon transition. The paper crawls the text data of comments on the Zhihu platform (a Chinese platform similar to Quora), explores the focus of patients on wise medical through the co-occurrence analysis of high-frequency words, with a focus directly related to the role of wise medical treatment in carbon reduction, and designed a questionnaire accordingly. Using 837 valid questionnaires collected in Zhejiang Province, an XGBoost model was constructed to discuss the main factors affecting patient satisfaction, and the regional heterogeneity among the coastal area of eastern Zhejiang, the plain area of northern Zhejiang and the mountainous area of southwestern Zhejiang is discussed. The results show that patients' focus on wise medical lies mainly in the convenience brought by digitalization and the actual medical effect, and the main factors affecting satisfaction with medical treatment are the flow of people in hospitals, optimization of the medical treatment process, the application of digital platforms, the quality of telemedicine services and the appropriate quality of treatment. In terms of regional differences in Zhejiang Province, wise medical is more developed in the plain area of northern Zhejiang, with better simplified medical treatment processes and the construction of a digital platform, while the mountainous areas of southwestern Zhejiang have better quality in telemedicine services despite the geographical environment. Eastern Zhejiang is somewhere in between.

ABSTRACT

Retrospecting articles on interpersonal trust is of great importance for understanding its current status and future development in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially, with the widespread use of Big Data and Blockchain. In total, 1532 articles related to interpersonal trust were collected as research database to draw keyword co-occurrence mapping and timeline mapping by VOSviewer and CiteSpace. On this basis, the research content and evolution trend of interpersonal trust were systematically analyzed. The results show that: (1) Data cleaning by code was first integrated with Knowledge Mapping and then used to review the research of interpersonal trust;(2) Developed countries have contributed the most to the research of interpersonal trust;(3) Social capital, knowledge sharing, job and organizational performance, Chinese Guanxi are the research hotspots of interpersonal trust;(4) The research hotspots on interpersonal trust evolve from the level of individual psychology and behavior to the level of social stability and development and then to the level of organization operation and management;(5) At present, the research on interpersonal trust is in the outbreak period;fMRI technology and Big Data and Blockchain technology gradually become vital research tools of interpersonal trust, which provides significant prospects for the following research of interpersonal trust under the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Considering the physical, and psychological impacts and challenges brought about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), art therapy (AT) provides opportunities to promote human health and well-being. There are few systematic analysis studies in the fields of AT, which can provide content and direction for the potential value and impact of AT. Therefore, this paper aims to critically analyze the published work in the field of AT from the perspective of promoting health and well-being, and provides insights into current research status, hotspots, limitations, and future development trends of AT. This paper adopts a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative analysis including bibliometric analysis and keyword co-occurrence analysis. The results indicate that: (1) the current studies on AT are mostly related to research and therapeutic methods, types of AT, research populations and diseases, and evaluation of therapeutic effect of AT. The research method of AT mainly adopts qualitative research, among which creative arts therapy and group AT are common types of AT, and its main research populations are children, veterans, and adolescents. AT-aided diseases are trauma, depression, psychosis, dementia, and cancer. In addition, the therapeutic methods are mainly related to psychotherapy, drama, music, and dance/movement. Further, computer systems are an important evaluation tool in the research of AT; (2) the future development trend of AT-aided health and well-being based on research hotspots, could be focused on children, schizophrenia, well-being, mental health, palliative care, veterans, and the elderly within the context of addressing COVID-19 challenges; and (3) future AT-aided health and well-being could pay more attention to innovate and integrate the therapeutic methods of behavior, movement, and technology, such as virtual reality and remote supervision.

ABSTRACT

Ambivalence is a phenomenon that transcends disciplinary divides and is associated with a myriad of mixed outcomes. Yet, identifying and representing the complexities of ambivalent experiences can be difficult using traditional qualitative methods. Thus, the goal of the present study was to advance a qualitative method, thematic co-occurrence analysis, to address this issue. To illustrate the usefulness of this method, I present a case study detailing 35 estranged adult children's ambivalent responses and reactions to their parents' (non)contact during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings reveal seven themes and four (non)relationships between them that reflect (a) theme independence, (b) unilateral co-occurrence, (c) unbalanced co-occurrence, and (d) complementary co-occurrence. These findings advance a theory of ambivalence and corresponding method to aid in the future investigations of ambivalent phenomena.
